WHY WE STOPPED USING DOCKBORDS WITH STEEL CURBS
There is a fundamental flaw with aluminum boards with steel curbs. As a load is driven across the board, the board flexes between the plate and the curb. Even with normal use, the bolts are moving within the holes on the board. Since the bolts are harder than aluminum, the holes start becoming larger, effectively loosening the curbs. Retightening the bolts only helps temporarily since the same action/reaction is still occurring. Loose curbs will reduce the capacity of the board, creating an unsafe situation. Also, a glancing blow from a lift truck to a loose curb could knock it completely off. Our dock boards feature aluminum decks and aluminum curbs. These curbs are lighter weight and by being welded the full length of the board inside and out, make for a stronger, longer lasting board and eliminates the weakening of the board inherent in steel curb designs.
